गुहम् एव ब्रुवाणम् तम् राघवः प्रत्युवाच ह ॥ ॥२-५०-४०॥
guham eva bruvāṇam tam rāghavaḥ pratyuvāca ha ॥ ॥2-50-40॥
Translation
To Guha, who was speaking thus, Raghava (Rama) replied.

गुह के इस प्रकार (प्रेमपूर्वक) कहने पर, रघुनंदन श्री राम ने उनसे कहा।
English Commentary
This short narrative verse serves as a transition. It sets the stage for Rama's response. The use of the patronymic "Raghava" is significant here; it subtly reminds the reader that Rama acts not just as an individual, but as the scion of the Raghu lineage, bound by honor, truth, and specific codes of conduct (Dharma). It prepares us to hear how Rama will balance his love for his friend with his vow of asceticism.

यह एक संयोजी श्लोक (connecting verse) है जो गुह के प्रस्ताव और राम के उत्तर के बीच सेतु का काम करता है। यहाँ राम को 'राघव' कहा गया है, जो रघुकुल की मर्यादा और परंपरा को इंगित करता है। राम का उत्तर केवल एक मित्र का उत्तर नहीं होगा, बल्कि रघुकुल की सत्यप्रतिज्ञा और वनवास के धर्म को ध्यान में रखकर दिया गया उत्तर होगा। वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ श्रोता का ध्यान अब राम के वचनों की ओर आकर्षित कर रहे हैं।
