Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एते हि दयिता राज्ञः पितुर् दशरथस्य मे ।
एतैः सुविहितैः अश्वैः भविष्याम्य् अहम् अर्चितः ॥ ॥२-५०-४६॥
ete hi dayitā rājñaḥ pitur daśarathasya me । etaiḥ suvihitaiḥ aśvaiḥ bhaviṣyāmy aham arcitaḥ ॥ ॥2-50-46॥
Translation
For these (horses) are indeed dear to my father, King Dasharatha. If these horses are well-cared for, I shall consider myself honored.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ये घोड़े मेरे पिता महाराज दशरथ को अत्यंत प्रिय हैं। इन घोड़ों की अच्छी सेवा हो जाने पर मैं स्वयं को सम्मानित मानूंगा।
English Commentary
Rama's motivation for caring for the horses goes beyond logistics; it is rooted in filial piety. He mentions that these horses are dear to his father, Dasharatha. Even in exile, preserving what his father loves is a way for Rama to maintain his connection and duty to him. It shows that Rama’s actions are always centered around the happiness of his elders. By equating the care of the horses to his own worship, he elevates the status of the animals because of their association with his father.

वन में रहते हुए भी राम का मन अपने पिता दशरथ से जुड़ा है। वे घोड़ों की देखभाल इसलिए चाहते हैं क्योंकि वे उनके पिता को प्रिय हैं। यह 'पितृभक्ति' का एक सूक्ष्म पहलू है। राम का अपना कोई सुख-दुःख नहीं है; जो पिता को प्रिय है, उसका रक्षण करना ही उनका सुख है। यह श्लोक यह भी बताता है कि राम उन घोड़ों को मात्र वाहन नहीं, बल्कि पिता की धरोहर मानते हैं।
