Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
गुहो अपि सह सूतेन सौमित्रिम् अनुभाषयन् ।
अन्वजाग्रत् ततः रामम् अप्रमत्तः धनुर् धरः ॥ ॥२-५०-५०॥
guho api saha sūtena saumitrim anubhāṣayan । anvajāgrat tataḥ rāmam apramattaḥ dhanur dharaḥ ॥ ॥2-50-50॥
Translation
Guha also, along with the charioteer (Sumantra), stayed awake conversing with Lakshmana (Saumitri). Holding his bow and remaining extremely vigilant, he kept guard over Rama.
हिंदी अनुवाद
गुह भी सारथी (सुमंत) के साथ लक्ष्मण जी से बातचीत करते हुए, हाथ में धनुष धारण कर अत्यंत सावधानी (सावधानी) से श्री राम की पहरेदारी (रक्षा) के लिए जागते रहे।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the collective devotion surrounding Rama. Even though Lakshmana was already guarding Rama, Guha did not rest. Joined by Sumantra, the three formed a protective ring around the sleeping divine couple. The term apramattaḥ (vigilant/without carelessness) highlights Guha's warrior spirit; he didn't just stay awake out of courtesy, but with the active intent of a bodyguard holding his bow. It depicts a poignant scene where a prince, a charioteer, and a tribal king are united in a sleepless vigil by their common love for Rama.

यह श्लोक भक्ति और कर्तव्यनिष्ठा का अद्भुत संगम है। यद्यपि लक्ष्मण जी पहरे पर थे, किन्तु गुह को विश्राम करना स्वीकार नहीं था। उन्होंने अपने अतिथि और स्वामी की सुरक्षा को सर्वोपरि माना। 'अप्रमत्तः' (प्रमाद रहित/सावधान) शब्द दर्शाता है कि गुह केवल औपचारिक रूप से नहीं जागे थे, बल्कि एक योद्धा की भांति पूर्ण सतर्कता से पहरा दे रहे थे। सुमंत, लक्ष्मण और गुह—तीनों का एक साथ जागना यह सिद्ध करता है कि राम के प्रति प्रेम, कुल (लक्ष्मण), सेवा (सुमंत) और मित्रता (गुह) के भेद से परे है।
