ततोऽब्रवीद्दाशरथिः सुमन्त्रम् ।
स्पृशन् करेणोत्तमदक्षिणेन ।
सुमन्त्र शीघ्रम् पुनरेव याहि ।
राज्ञः सकाशे भवचाप्रमत्तः ॥ ॥२-५२-१३॥
Tato'bravīd dāśarathiḥ sumantram |
Spṛśan kareṇottama dakṣiṇena |
Sumantra śīghram punar eva yāhi |
Rājñaḥ sakāśे bhava cāpramattaḥ ॥2-52-13॥
Translation
Then, the son of Dasharatha (Rama), touching Sumantra with his excellent right hand, said: "O Sumantra, return quickly (to Ayodhya) and remain vigilant in the presence of the King."
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब दशरथनन्दन राम ने अपने उत्तम दाहिने हाथ से सुमन्त्र का स्पर्श करते हुए कहा— "हे सुमन्त्र! तुम शीघ्र ही (अयोध्या) लौट जाओ और राजा के पास सावधान (सजग) रहना।"
English Commentary
The physical gesture in this verse is powerful. Rama touches Sumantra with his right hand (kareṇottama dakṣiṇena), conveying warmth, respect, and reassurance to the grieving old minister. It is a touch meant to ground Sumantra. Rama’s instruction is twofold: first, return quickly (śīghram yāhi), sealing the separation; second, be vigilant (apramattaḥ) by the King's side. This reveals Rama’s foresight and filial piety. He anticipates the devastating impact his departure will have on Dasharatha and assigns Sumantra the critical duty of monitoring and protecting the King.

यह विदाई का क्षण है। राम का स्पर्श बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है। वे अपने 'उत्तम दाहिने हाथ' से सुमन्त्र को छूते हैं, जो आशीर्वाद, सम्मान और सांत्वना का प्रतीक है। राम जानते हैं कि सुमन्त्र पिता तुल्य हैं और बहुत दुखी हैं। राम का आदेश स्पष्ट है—'पुनर एव याहि' (वापस लौट जाओ)। लेकिन राम की चिंता स्वयं के लिए नहीं, बल्कि पिता दशरथ के लिए है। वे कहते हैं 'राज्ञः सकाशे भव अप्रमत्तः' (राजा के पास सावधान रहना)। राम जानते हैं कि उनके जाने के बाद दशरथ का स्वास्थ्य बिगड़ सकता है, इसलिए वे सुमन्त्र को राजा की देखभाल का दायित्व सौंप रहे हैं।
