निवर्तस्व इति उवाच एनम् एतावद्द् हि कृतम् मम ।
रथम् विहाय पद्भ्याम् तु गमिष्यामि महावनम् ॥ ॥२-५२-१४॥
Nivartasva iti uvāca enam etāvad hi kṛtam mama |
Ratham vihāya padbhyām tu gamiṣyāmi mahāvanam ॥2-52-14॥
Translation
"Turn back"—thus he spoke to him— "You have indeed done enough for me. Abandoning the chariot, I shall now proceed on foot into the great forest."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"तुम लौट जाओ"—राम ने उनसे कहा— "मेरे लिए तुमने इतना ही बहुत कर दिया। अब रथ को छोड़कर मैं पैदल ही महावन में जाऊँगा।"
English Commentary
Rama formally dismisses Sumantra with words of gratitude and finality. By saying "You have done enough for me," he absolves Sumantra of any guilt for leaving them there. The transition is starkly defined: Ratham vihāya (leaving the chariot) vs. Padbhyām (on foot). This marks the official end of the journey by vehicle and the beginning of the pilgrimage by foot. Rama embraces the Mahāvanam (great forest) willingly, signaling that he is mentally prepared for the hardships ahead and does not require the crutch of royal transport anymore.

राम यहाँ पूर्ण वैराग्य और संकल्प प्रदर्शित करते हैं। वे औपचारिक रूप से सुमन्त्र को सेवामुक्त कर रहे हैं—'एतावद्द् हि कृतम् मम' (मेरे लिए तुमने इतना ही बहुत किया)। यह सुमन्त्र के मन से इस अपराधबोध को कम करने के लिए है कि वे राम को वन में छोड़कर जा रहे हैं। राम स्पष्ट करते हैं कि अब राजसी सुविधाओं का अंत हो गया है। 'रथम् विहाय' (रथ को छोड़कर) और 'पद्भ्याम् गमिष्यामि' (पैदल जाऊँगा) शब्दों के द्वारा राम राजकुमार की पहचान छोड़कर तपस्वी का जीवन स्वीकार कर रहे हैं। 'महावनम्' शब्द वन की विशालता और कठिनाई का संकेत देता है।
