प्रसीद इच्चामि ते अरण्ये भवितुम् प्रत्यनन्तरः ।
प्रीत्यु अभिहितम् इच्चामि भव मे पत्यनन्तरः ॥ ॥२-५२-५२॥
prasīda iccāmi te araṇye bhavitum pratyanantaraḥ । prītyā abhihitam iccāmi bhava me patyanantaraḥ ॥ ॥2-52-52॥
Translation
Be pleased with me. I wish to remain very close to you in the forest. I wish to hear you say with affection, "Be my closest attendant."
हिंदी अनुवाद
प्रसन्न होइये। मैं वन में आपके एकदम निकट रहना चाहता हूँ। मैं चाहता हूँ कि आप प्रेमपूर्वक मुझसे कहें—"तुम मेरे निकटस्थ सेवक बनो।"
English Commentary
Sumantra seeks formal acceptance of his new role. The word Pratyanantara implies immediate proximity or being the "next one" to someone. He desires to be Rama's personal attendant, bridging the gap between master and servant with physical closeness. He doesn't just want silent permission; he wants Rama to verbalize the acceptance with love (Preetya), validating Sumantra's devotion. He yearns for the command "Be my attendant," which would legitimize his stay in the forest not as an intruder, but as an invited and integral part of Rama’s exile life.

यहाँ 'प्रत्यनन्तरः' शब्द अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है, जिसका अर्थ है 'बिल्कुल पास' या 'जिसके बीच में कोई अंतर न हो'। सुमंत्र केवल वन में रहने की अनुमति नहीं मांग रहे, बल्कि वे राम की अंतरंग सेवा (Personal service) का अधिकार मांग रहे हैं। वे चाहते हैं कि राम उन्हें औपचारिक रूप से, प्रेमपूर्वक (प्रीत्या) यह सेवा सौंपें। यह एक सेवक की अपने स्वामी से स्वीकृति पाने की लालसा है। सुमंत्र चाहते हैं कि राम उन्हें 'आज्ञा' दें ताकि उनका वन में रहना वैध और राम की इच्छा के अनुरूप हो जाए, न कि केवल सुमंत्र की जिद।
