चतुर् दश हि वर्षाणि सहितस्य त्वया वने ।
क्षण भूतानि यास्यन्ति शतशः तु ततः अन्यथा ॥२-५२-५७॥
catur daśa hi varṣāṇi sahitasya tvayā vane । kṣaṇa bhūtāni yāsyanti śataśaḥ tu tataḥ anyathā ॥ ॥2-52-57॥
Translation
Staying with you in the forest, fourteen years will pass like mere moments; but otherwise (without you), they will feel like hundreds of years.
हिंदी अनुवाद
आपके साथ वन में रहते हुए चौदह वर्ष मेरे लिए क्षण भर के समान बीत जाएँगे, किन्तु आपके बिना वे सैकड़ों वर्षों से भी अधिक प्रतीत होंगे।
English Commentary
This verse presents the 'relativity of time' in the context of love and devotion. In samyoga (union), a long duration feels brief, while in viyoga (separation), a short duration feels like an eternity. Sumantra expresses his exclusive devotion to Rama, implying that the comforts of the Ayodhya palace are meaningless without him, while the hardships of the forest are pleasurable in his company. It illustrates the psychological state of a devotee for whom the center of existence is solely the master; time is measured not by the sun or moon, but by the presence of Rama.

यह श्लोक 'समय की सापेक्षता' (relativity of time) को प्रेम और भक्ति के संदर्भ में प्रस्तुत करता है। संयोग (मिलन) में लम्बा समय भी अल्प लगता है, जबकि वियोग में अल्प समय भी युगों जैसा भारी हो जाता है। सुमन्त्र राम के प्रति अपने अनन्य प्रेम को प्रकट करते हुए कहते हैं कि अयोध्या के राजमहल का सुख राम के बिना व्यर्थ है, और वन का कष्ट राम के सान्निध्य में सुखद है। यह एक भक्त की मनोवैज्ञानिक स्थिति का चित्रण है जहाँ उसके अस्तित्व का केंद्र केवल उसका स्वामी है।
