मध्यम् तु समनुप्राप्य भागीरथ्याः तु अनिन्दिता ।
वैदेही प्रान्जलिर् भूत्वा ताम् नदीम् इदम् अब्रवीत् ॥२-५२-८२॥
madhyam tu samanuprāpya bhāgīrathyāḥ tu aninditā । vaidehī prāñjalir bhūtvā tām nadīm idam abravīt ॥ ॥2-52-82॥
Translation
Having reached the middle of the Bhagirathi (Ganga), the irreproachable Vaidehi (Sita), with folded hands, spoke these words to the river.

भागीरथी (गंगा) के मध्य भाग में पहुँचकर, अनिंदित (दोषरहित) वैदेही (सीता) ने हाथ जोड़कर उस नदी से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Sita's character emerges here as the true 'Sahadharmini' (spiritual partner) and protector. Praying in the 'madhyam' (middle) of the river holds specific ritual significance as a liminal space. She is called 'aninditā' (blameless), underscoring her purity and virtue. While Rama handles the logistical decisions, Sita takes charge of propitiating the divine forces. She folds her hands and establishes a dialogue with the river, addressing it with the intimacy one would accord to a friend or mother.

सीता का चरित्र यहाँ एक 'सहधर्मिणी' और रक्षक के रूप में उभरता है। नदी के 'मध्य' में प्रार्थना करना एक विशेष धार्मिक महत्व रखता है, क्योंकि यह संधि स्थल है। सीता को 'अनिन्दिता' (जिसकी निंदा न की जा सके) कहा गया है, जो उनकी पवित्रता और सतीत्व को रेखांकित करता है। राम जहाँ व्यावहारिक निर्णय ले रहे हैं, सीता दैवीय शक्तियों को अनुकूल बनाने का कार्य कर रही हैं। वे हाथ जोड़कर नदी से संवाद स्थापित करती हैं, जैसे कोई सखी या माता से बात कर रहा हो।
