स तम् वृक्षम् समासाद्य सम्ध्याम् अन्वास्य पश्चिमाम् ।
रामः रमयताम् श्रेष्ठैति ह उवाच लक्ष्मणम् ॥२-५-three-१॥ ॥२-५३-१॥
sa tam vṛkṣam samāsādya samdhyām anvāsya paścimām |
rāmaḥ ramayatām śreṣṭhaiti ha uvāca lakṣmaṇam ॥2-53-1॥
Translation
Having reached that tree and worshipped the western twilight (evening prayers), Rama, the best among those who delight others, spoke to Lakshmana.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस वृक्ष के पास पहुँचकर और पश्चिम (सायं) संध्या की उपासना करके, रमाने वालों (आनंद देने वालों) में श्रेष्ठ राम ने लक्ष्मण से कहा।
English Commentary
Even in the wilderness, after the labor of hunting and travel, Rama adheres strictly to Vedic rhythms. He performs the 'Sandhya' (twilight prayers), grounding himself in spiritual discipline despite the chaos of displacement. The epithet 'ramayatām śreṣṭhaḥ' (best among those who delight) suggests that even in his darkest hour, Rama's demeanor remains a source of grace and stability. Settling under the tree signifies their first night truly in the open, maintaining the Aryan rites of passage even without a roof over their heads.

शिकार और भोजन के बाद, राम अपनी नित्य क्रिया नहीं भूलते। 'सम्ध्याम् अन्वास्य' (संध्या वंदन करके) यह दर्शाता है कि वन की कठिनाइयों और भूख के बावजूद, राम अपने धार्मिक अनुशासन (Dharma) का पालन करते हैं। उन्हें 'रमयताम् श्रेष्ठ' (दूसरों को आनंदित करने वालों में श्रेष्ठ) कहा गया है, जो विरोधाभासी है क्योंकि वे स्वयं कष्ट में हैं, फिर भी उनका व्यक्तित्व और उपस्थिति दूसरों के लिए सुखद है। यह सर्ग 53 का प्रारम्भ है, जहाँ रात्रि विश्राम के समय राम पुनः अपने भाव व्यक्त करेंगे।
