स हि सर्वस्य राज्यस्य मुखम् एकम् भविष्यति ।
ताते च वयसा अतीते मयि च अरण्यम् आश्रिते ॥२-५३-१२॥
sa hi sarvasya rājyasya mukham ekam bhaviṣyati |
tāte ca vayasā atīte mayi ca araṇyam āśrite ॥2-53-12॥
Translation
"Since father has passed his prime (is old) and I have taken refuge in the forest, he (Bharata) alone will be the face (leader) of the entire kingdom."

"पिताजी के वृद्ध (वयसा अतीते) होने पर और मेरे वन (अरण्य) का आश्रय लेने पर, वह (भरत) ही सम्पूर्ण राज्य का एकमात्र मुख (प्रधान/स्वामी) होगा।"
English Commentary
Rama continues his analysis of the power vacuum. With Dasharatha being 'vayasā atīte' (past his age/senile) and Rama removed from the equation, Bharata becomes the 'mukham ekam'—the single face or representative of the state. Rama understands that effective power will shift to Bharata immediately. This is a factual statement of the political consequence of the exile. It acknowledges that the old order (Dasharatha) is fading and the intended successor (Rama) is removed, leaving the stage entirely to Bharata.

राम यहाँ व्यावहारिक राजनीति (Realpolitik) की बात कर रहे हैं। दशरथ 'वयसा अतीते' (आयु पार कर चुके/अति वृद्ध) हैं, अतः वे नाममात्र के राजा रह जाएंगे। वास्तविक सत्ता भरत के हाथ में होगी क्योंकि राम 'अरण्यम् आश्रिते' (वन में) हैं। 'मुखम् एकम्' का अर्थ है कि अब प्रजा और मंत्रियों को केवल भरत की ओर ही देखना होगा। राम भविष्य देख रहे हैं कि अयोध्या की सत्ता का केंद्र अब पूरी तरह बदल चुका है।
