Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एतत् अन्यच् च करुणम् विलप्य विजने बहु ।
अश्रु पूर्ण मुखो रामः निशि तूष्णीम् उपाविशत् ॥२-५३-२७॥
etat anyac ca karuṇam vilapya vijane bahu । aśru pūrṇa mukho rāmaḥ niśi tūṣṇīm upāviśat ॥ ॥2-53-27॥
Translation
Having lamented this and saying many other piteous things in that desolate forest, Rama, his face filled with tears, sat silent in the night.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस निर्जन वन में इस प्रकार तथा और भी बहुत सी करुण बातें कहकर, आँसुओं से भरे मुख वाले श्रीराम रात्रि में चुप होकर बैठ गए।
English Commentary
This verse captures the raw humanity of Rama. Despite his stoicism and philosophical understanding, the isolation of the forest (Vijane) and the betrayal of his circumstances evoke deep sorrow. The imagery of the 'face filled with tears' contrasts sharply with the warrior-prince persona, revealing a vulnerable son and husband. His descent into silence (Tūṣṇīm) marks a transition from active grieving to a solemn contemplation of his reality. It signifies the exhaustion of grief. Valmiki portrays Rama not as an unfeeling stone deity, but as a feeling being whose adherence to Dharma comes at a tremendous personal emotional cost, making his sacrifice all the more poignant.

यह श्लोक श्रीराम के मानवीय पक्ष और उनकी वेदना की गहराई को दर्शाता है। यद्यपि वे धीर-गम्भीर हैं, तथापि वन का एकांत और माता-पिता से वियोग की पीड़ा उन्हें भी व्यथित कर देती है। 'विजने' (निर्जन वन में) शब्द यहाँ राम की स्थिति की विडंबना को रेखांकित करता है—जो कल तक सेवकों और प्रजा से घिरे थे, आज एकांत में हैं। उनका मौन ('तूष्णीम्') वाचालता से अधिक भारी है। यह मौन स्वीकारोक्ति है कि अब तर्क और विलाप का समय समाप्त हो गया है और कठोर वास्तविकता का सामना करने का समय आ गया है। वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ दिखाते हैं कि अवतार होते हुए भी राम मानवीय भावनाओं से परे नहीं हैं; उनका दुख उनके त्याग को और अधिक महान बनाता है।
