प्रतिगृह्य च ताम् अर्चाम् उपविष्टम् स राघवम् ।
भरद्वाजो अब्रवीद् वाक्यम् धर्म युक्तम् इदान् तदा ॥२-५४-२०॥
pratigṛhya ca tām arcām upaviṣṭam sa rāghavam । bharadvājo abravīd vākyam dharma yuktam idam tadā ॥ ॥2-54-20॥
Translation
After Raghava had accepted that honor and taken his seat, Bharadwaja spoke these righteous words to him then.

"उस पूजा (सत्कार) को ग्रहण करके जब वे राघव (राम) बैठ गए, तब भरद्वाज ने उनसे उस समय यह धर्मयुक्त वचन कहा।"
English Commentary
The sequential action emphasizes discipline. Rama accepts the worship (Arcām) and takes his seat (Upaviṣṭam). Only when the guest is settled does the host speak. The descriptor Dharma yuktam (endowed with Dharma) for Bharadwaja’s speech is crucial. It implies that his upcoming words will be ethically sound, truthful, and appropriate for the context. It prepares the listener (and the reader) for a statement of wisdom or significant import regarding Rama's situation.

वार्तालाप का शिष्टाचार देखिए—राम तब तक खड़े रहे जब तक ऋषि ने उन्हें बैठने को नहीं कहा या सत्कार पूर्ण नहीं हुआ। 'उपविष्टम्' (बैठ जाने पर) ही ऋषि ने बोलना शुरू किया। ऋषि के वचनों को 'धर्म युक्तम्' (धर्म से युक्त) कहा गया है। इसका अर्थ है कि ऋषि जो कहेंगे, वह केवल औपचारिक नहीं होगा, बल्कि उसमें नीति, सहानुभूति और सत्य का समावेश होगा। एक ज्ञानी ऋषि के मुख से निरर्थक बातें नहीं निकलतीं; उनका प्रत्येक शब्द धर्म सम्मत होता है।
