Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विचरन्ति वन अन्तेषु तानि द्रक्ष्यसि राघव ।
सरित्प्रस्रवणप्रस्थान् दरीकन्धरनिर्घरान् ॥ ॥२-५४-४२॥
Vicaranti vana anteṣu tāni drakṣyasi Rāghava । Sarit-prasravaṇa-prasthān darī-kandhara-nirgharān ॥ ॥2-54-42॥
Translation
O Raghava, you will see them (the animals) wandering in the forest regions. You will also see rivers, waterfalls, tablelands, caves, caverns, and mountain torrents.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राघव! वन के प्रांतों में विचरते हुए उन (पशुओं) को तुम देखोगे। तुम वहाँ नदियों, झरनों, समतल भूमि, गुफाओं, कंदराओं और गिरिनिर्झरों के दर्शन करोगे।
English Commentary
This verse acts as a geographical brochure. The sage lists specific geological features: Sarit (rivers), Prasravana (springs/waterfalls), Dari (caves), and Kandhara (gorges/caverns). This variety is essential for ascetic life—caves for shelter and meditation, streams for water and ablutions. By addressing him as Raghava, the sage reminds him of his lineage, suggesting that enjoying the rugged beauty of the land is fit for a scion of the Raghus who protects the earth. It prepares Rama for the diverse terrain he is about to master.

महर्षि भरद्वाज यहाँ चित्रकूट की टोपोग्राफी (स्थलाकृति) का विस्तृत नक्शा खींचते हैं। 'सरित' (नदियाँ), 'प्रस्रवण' (झरने), 'दरी' (गुफाएँ) और 'कन्धर' (कंदराएँ) – यह विविधता बताती है कि वहाँ एकांतवास के लिए प्राकृतिक आवास उपलब्ध हैं। योग और तप के लिए गुफाएँ उत्तम मानी जाती हैं। ऋषि राघव को एक पर्यटक की भांति नहीं, बल्कि एक वनवासी की भांति उस भूमि से परिचित करा रहे हैं जहाँ उन्हें लंबा समय व्यतीत करना है। 'द्रक्ष्यसि' (देखोगे) क्रिया में भविष्यद्वाणी का निश्चय है।
