Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रामः तु आश्रमम् आसाद्य त्रासयन् मृग पक्षिणः ।
गत्वा मुहूर्तम् अध्वानम् भरद्वाजम् उपागमत् ॥२-५४-९॥
rāmaḥ tu āśramam āsādya trāsayan mṛga pakṣiṇaḥ । gatvā muhūrtam adhvānam bharadvājam upāgamat ॥ ॥2-54-9॥
Translation
Rama, having reached the vicinity of the hermitage, frightening the deer and birds (by his presence), walked for a short while and approached Sage Bharadwaja.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राम आश्रम के समीप पहुँचकर, मृगों और पक्षियों को (अपने आगमन से अनजाने में) भयभीत करते हुए, और मुहूर्त भर (थोड़ी दूर) मार्ग चलकर भरद्वाज मुनि के पास पहुँचे।
English Commentary
The phrase trāsayan mṛga pakṣiṇaḥ (frightening the deer and birds) serves as a realistic detail underscoring the contrast between the ascetics and the warriors. The fauna of the hermitage, accustomed to the gentle tread of sages, react instinctively to the formidable presence of armed men. Even though Rama is righteous, his martial energy disturbs the absolute tranquility of the animal kingdom. After causing this stir, Rama walks a Muhurtam (a short distance/time) to finally come into the direct presence of the Sage, marking the crossing of the final threshold into the inner sanctum of the ashram.

यहाँ 'त्रासयन्' (भयभीत करते हुए) शब्द थोड़ा चौंकाने वाला लग सकता है, परन्तु यह यथार्थवादी चित्रण है। आश्रम के पशु-पक्षी ऋषियों के अभ्यस्त होते हैं जो शांत और अहिंसक होते हैं। अचानक सशस्त्र, बलिष्ठ योद्धाओं (राम और लक्ष्मण) के आगमन से, उनके चलने की गति और उनके धनुष-बाणों को देखकर वन के प्राणियों में स्वाभाविक हलचल या भय उत्पन्न हो गया। यह 'तपोवन' की शांति और 'राजसी' आगमन के बीच का अंतर स्पष्ट करता है। राम जानबूझकर उन्हें नहीं डरा रहे, बल्कि उनका व्यक्तित्व ही इतना प्रभावशाली और भिन्न है कि आश्रम का वातावरण स्पंदित हो उठता है।
