उषित्वा रजनीम् तत्र राजपुत्रावरिम्दमौ ।
महर्षिमभिवाद्याथ जग्मतुस्तम् गिरिम् प्रति ॥ ॥२-५५-१॥
Uṣitvā rajanīm tatra rāja-putrāv arim-damau । Maharṣim abhivādyātha jagmatus tam girim prati ॥ ॥2-55-1॥
Translation
Having dwelt there for the night, those two princes, subduers of enemies, bowed to the great sage and then departed towards that mountain.

शत्रुओं का दमन करने वाले वे दोनों राजकुमार (राम और लक्ष्मण) उस रात वहाँ (प्रयाग में) रहकर, (प्रातःकाल) महर्षि को प्रणाम करके उस पर्वत (चित्रकूट) की ओर चल पड़े।
English Commentary

यहाँ से ५५वां सर्ग आरंभ होता है। 'अरिन्दमौ' (शत्रु-दमनकारी) विशेषण का प्रयोग यह याद दिलाने के लिए है कि वे वनवासी वेश में होते हुए भी क्षत्रिय वीर हैं। 'महर्षिम अभिवाद्य' (महर्षि को प्रणाम करके) उनकी शिष्टता और गुरु-सम्मान को दर्शाता है। बिना आशीर्वाद और आज्ञा के प्रस्थान न करना भारतीय मर्यादा है। 'जग्मतुः' (वे दोनों गए) क्रिया यात्रा के आरंभ को सूचित करती है। यह श्लोक संक्रमणकालीन है, जो विश्राम से यात्रा की ओर बढ़ने का संकेत देता है।
