Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तेषाम् चैव स्वस्त्ययनम् महर्षिः स चकार ह ।
प्रस्थिताम्श्चैव तान् प्रेक्ष्य पिता पुत्रानिवान्वगात् ॥ ॥२-५५-२॥
Teṣām caiva svasty-ayanam maharṣiḥ sa cakāra ha । Prasthitāmś caiva tān prekṣya pitā putrān ivānvagāt ॥ ॥2-55-2॥
Translation
The great sage performed the Swastyayana (rites for safe journey) for them. Seeing them set out, he followed them just as a father follows his sons.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस महर्षि ने उन सबके लिए 'स्वस्त्ययन' (मंगल-कामना/यात्रा की सुरक्षा का अनुष्ठान) किया। जब वे प्रस्थान करने लगे, तो ऋषि उन्हें विदा करने के लिए उनके पीछे वैसे ही चले जैसे पिता अपने पुत्रों के पीछे चलता है।
English Commentary
The performance of Swastyayana is significant; it is a ritual safeguard invoked for protection during travel. This act transforms the sage's role from a mere informant to a spiritual guardian. The simile 'like a father follows his sons' (pita putran iva) is poignant. It reveals the emotional bond formed in a short span. Despite his detachment as an ascetic, Bharadwaja feels the pang of separation, emphasizing Rama’s quality of endearing himself to everyone he meets.

'स्वस्त्ययन' एक वैदिक अनुष्ठान है जो यात्रा की निर्विघ्नता के लिए किया जाता है। एक तपस्वी ऋषि द्वारा स्वयं यह करना श्रीराम के प्रति उनके गहरे स्नेह को दिखाता है। उपमा 'पिता पुत्रानिव' (जैसे पिता पुत्रों के) अत्यंत मार्मिक है। भरद्वाज मुनि का संबंध राम से केवल अतिथि-मेजबान का नहीं, बल्कि वात्सल्यपूर्ण हो गया था। वन गमन के समय अपनों का पीछे-पीछे चलना एक स्वाभाविक मानवीय व्यवहार है, जिसे यहाँ एक ब्रह्मज्ञानी ऋषि द्वारा निभाया जा रहा है।
