Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सीतामेवाग्रतः कृत्वा कालिन्दीम् जग्मतुर्नदीम् ।
अथासाद्य तु कालिन्दीम् शीघ्रस्रोतोवहाम् नदीम् ॥ ॥२-५५-१३॥
Sītām evāgrataḥ kṛtvā Kālindīm jagmatur nadīm । Athāsādya tu Kālindīm śīghra-sroto-vahām nadīm ॥ ॥2-55-13॥
Translation
Placing Sita in the front, the two proceeded towards the river Kalindi. Then, they reached the Kalindi river, which flows with a swift current.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सीता को ही आगे करके वे दोनों कालिन्दी (यमुना) नदी की ओर चले। तदनन्तर, वे तीव्र प्रवाह वाली कालिन्दी नदी के तट पर पहुँचे।
English Commentary
The tactical formation changes: Sitam eva agratah kritva (placing Sita in front). In potentially dangerous terrain, keeping the protectee in visual range is vital. They arrive at the Kalindi, and the text re-emphasizes its nature as Shighra-sroto-vaham (bearing a swift current).
