ततः प्रतेरतुर्य त्तौ वीरौ दशरथात्मजौ ।
कालिन्दीमध्यमायाता सीता त्वेनामवन्दत ॥ ॥२-५५-१९॥
Tataḥ prateratur yattau vīrau Daśarathātmajau । Kālindī-madhyam āyātā Sītā tv enām avandata ॥ ॥2-55-19॥
Translation
Then those two heroic sons of Dasharatha began to cross, rowing with effort. When they reached the middle of the Kalindi, Sita prayed to her (the river).
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर वे दोनों वीर दशरथकुमार यत्नपूर्वक (बेड़े को खेकर) नदी पार करने लगे। जब वे कालिन्दी के मध्य में आए, तब सीता ने इस (नदी) की वंदना की।
English Commentary
The brothers act as the propulsion, Prateratur yattau (crossing with effort), emphasizing the physical exertion against the Shighra-srota (swift current). Upon reaching the middle (Madhyam), the most perilous point, Sita performs Vandana (worship/prayer) to the river goddess. This act completes the sage's instruction to propitiate the local deities. It presents a striking image: the muscular effort of the princes combined with the spiritual invocation of the princess to ensure their safety.

'प्रतेरतुः' (पार करने लगे/तैरने लगे) और 'यत्तौ' (यत्नपूर्वक) शब्द बताते हैं कि यमुना का बहाव तेज था और उसे पार करने में दोनों भाइयों को शारीरिक श्रम करना पड़ा। जब वे 'कालिन्दी मध्यम्' (धारा के बीच) पहुँचे, जहाँ गहराई और बहाव सबसे अधिक होता है, तब सीता ने नदी की वंदना की। यह भय और श्रद्धा का मिश्रित भाव है। नदी के बीच में प्रार्थना करना एक प्राचीन परंपरा है, जो जल देवता को शांत करने और सुरक्षित मार्ग की कामना के लिए है।
