मातम्ग यूथ अनुसृतम् पक्षि सम्घ अनुनादितम् ।
चित्र कूटम् इमम् पश्य प्रवृद्ध शिखरम् गिरिम् ॥ ॥२-५६-१०॥
Mātaṃga yūtha anusṛtam pakṣi saṃgha anunāditam । Citra kūṭam imam paśya pravṛddha śikharam girim ॥ ॥2-56-10॥
Translation
Behold this Chitrakoot mountain with its lofty peaks, frequented by herds of elephants and resounding with the calls of flocks of birds.

हाथियों के झुंडों द्वारा सेवित और पक्षियों के समूहों (की ध्वनियों) से निनादित, इस ऊँचे शिखरों वाले चित्रकूट पर्वत को देखो।
English Commentary
Rama draws attention to the grandeur of Mount Chitrakoot. The presence of Mātaṃga yūtha (herds of elephants) is a significant ecological indicator; elephants require vast amounts of water and fodder, implying that the region is fertile and resource-rich. Pravṛddha śikharam (lofty/grown peaks) suggests that the mountain provides a strategic vantage point and natural fortification. The auditory imagery of the mountain resounding with birds (pakṣi saṃgha) contrasts with the silence of a desolate wilderness, presenting Chitrakoot as a vibrant, living entity welcoming the exiles.
