Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तान्महर्षिः प्रमुदितः पूजयामास धर्मवित् ।
आस्यतामिति चोवाच स्वागतम् तु निवेद्य च ॥ ॥२-५६-१७॥
Tānmaharṣiḥ pramuditaḥ pūjayāmāsa dharmavit । Āsyatāmiti covāca svāgatam tu nivedya ca ॥ ॥2-56-17॥
Translation
The great Rishi, the knower of Dharma, was delighted and honored them. Having offered his welcome, he said to them, "Please be seated."
हिंदी अनुवाद
धर्म को जानने वाले (धर्मवित्) महर्षि ने प्रसन्न होकर उनका सत्कार (पूजन) किया और स्वागत-कुशल पूछने के बाद उनसे कहा—"विराजिये (बैठिये)"।
English Commentary
The sage is described as Dharmavit (knower of righteousness), ensuring that he observes the rites of hospitality (Atithi Satkar) flawlessly. Despite their exiled status, he honors them (pūjayāmāsa). The joy (pramuditaḥ) of the sage suggests a recognition of Rama's divine or noble nature. By inviting them to sit (āsyatām), he formally accepts them into his spiritual community, validating their decision to reside at Chitrakoot.

ऋषि वाल्मीकि को 'धर्मवित्' कहा गया है, जिसका अर्थ है कि वे जानते हैं कि अतिथि का सत्कार कैसे करना चाहिए, भले ही अतिथि वनवासी वेश में हों। 'प्रमुदितः' (अत्यंत प्रसन्न) शब्द दर्शाता है कि राम का आगमन ऋषि के लिए आनंद का विषय था। 'पूजयामास' का अर्थ यहाँ आरती उतारना नहीं, बल्कि अर्घ्य, पाद्य और मधुर वचनों से आदर सत्कार करना है। 'आस्यताम्' (बैठिये) कहकर उन्होंने राम को अपने आश्रम में स्थान और सम्मान दिया।
