Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सौमित्रे शृणु वन्यानाम् वल्गु व्याहरताम् स्वनम् ।
सम्प्रतिष्ठामहे कालः प्रस्थानस्य परम् तप ॥ ॥२-५६-२॥
Saumitre śṛṇu vanyānām valgu vyāharatām svanam । Sampratiṣṭhāmahe kālaḥ prasthānasya param tapa ॥ ॥2-56-2॥
Translation
O Sumitranandana (Lakshmana), listen to the melodious sounds of the forest dwellers (birds/animals). Let us depart now; it is the time for departure, O scorcher of foes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सुमित्रानंदन (लक्ष्मण)! वन के जीवों की मधुर ध्वनियों को सुनो। हे परंतप! अब हम प्रस्थान करेंगे, क्योंकि यह यात्रा आगे बढ़ाने का उचित समय है।
English Commentary
Rama uses the waking nature as an alarm clock. The valgu svanam (melodious sound) of the wildlife signifies the auspiciousness of the morning. Addressing Lakshmana as Paramtapa (scorcher of foes) serves to rouse his dormant warrior spirit after sleep. The verse balances the aesthetic appreciation of the forest soundscape with the pragmatic necessity of travel. It shows Rama as a leader who is attuned to his environment and dictates the pace of their journey based on natural rhythms.

राम प्रकृति के संकेतों के माध्यम से समय का बोध करा रहे हैं। पक्षियों का कलरव ('वल्गु स्वनम्') प्रातःकाल का सूचक है। राम, लक्ष्मण को 'परंतप' (शत्रुओं को तपाने वाले) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, जो लक्ष्मण के क्षत्रिय तेज को जगाने के लिए है। यहाँ प्रकृति के सौंदर्य का आनंद लेने के साथ-साथ गंतव्य (चित्रकूट) की ओर बढ़ने की तत्परता भी है। राम का यह कथन कि "यह प्रस्थान का समय है" उनकी समयबद्धता और लक्ष्य के प्रति एकाग्रता को दर्शाता है।
