तम् तु पक्वम् समाज्ञाय निष्टप्तम् छिन्नशोणितम् ।
लक्ष्मणः पुरुषव्याघ्रम् अथ राघवमब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-५६-२७॥
Tam tu pakvam samājñāya niṣṭaptam chinnaśoṇitam । Lakṣmaṇaḥ puruṣavyāghram atha rāghavamabravīt ॥ ॥2-56-27॥
Translation
Realizing that it was cooked, thoroughly roasted, and drained of blood, Lakshmana spoke to Raghava, the tiger among men.

उस (मांस) को पका हुआ, अच्छी तरह भुना हुआ और रक्त-विहीन समझकर, लक्ष्मण ने पुरुषसिंह श्रीराम से कहा।
English Commentary
This verse specifies the culinary and ritual standards required for the offering. Lakshmana ensures the meat is pakvam (cooked), nishtaptam (roasted thoroughly/hot), and crucially, chinna-shonitam (with blood drained or dried up). The removal of blood is a significant detail, often adhering to strict dietary and ritual codes that consider blood impure for certain types of consumption or offering. Lakshmana’s diligence shows his competency not just as a warrior but as a capable forest dweller attending to domestic necessities. Upon confirming the preparation is flawless, he addresses Rama, described as Purushavyaghra (tiger among men). This epithet acknowledges Rama's superiority and authority. The verse captures a moment of transition from preparation to the commencement of the main ritual, marked by Lakshmana's formal report to the chief celebrant, Rama.

यहाँ भोजन (या हविष्य) के तैयार होने की पूर्णता का वर्णन है। लक्ष्मण ने सुनिश्चित किया कि मांस 'पक्वम्' (पका हुआ), 'निष्टप्तम्' (भली-भांति भुना हुआ) और 'छिन्नशोणितम्' (जिसका रक्त पूरी तरह सूख गया हो या निकल गया हो) है। यज्ञीय कार्यों में अधपका या रक्तयुक्त मांस वर्जित माना जाता था, इसलिए लक्ष्मण की यह सतर्कता महत्वपूर्ण है। वे पाक-कला और यज्ञ-विधि दोनों में निपुण हैं। जब उन्हें विश्वास हो गया कि तैयारी पूर्ण है, तब उन्होंने श्रीराम को सूचित किया। श्रीराम के लिए 'पुरुषव्याघ्र' (पुरुषों में व्याघ्र समान श्रेष्ठ) विशेषण का प्रयोग उनके अधिकार और श्रेष्ठता को दर्शाता है। यह श्लोक वनवास के दौरान भाइयों के बीच श्रम-विभाजन और एक-दूसरे के प्रति सम्मान को भी रेखांकित करता है। लक्ष्मण रसोइए और सहायक की भूमिका निभा रहे हैं ताकि राम मुख्य यजमान की भूमिका निभा सकें।
