ततः सम्प्रस्थितः काले रामः सौमित्रिणा सह ।
सीताम् कमल पत्र अक्षीम् इदम् वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-५६-५॥
Tataḥ samprasthitaḥ kāle rāmaḥ saumitriṇā saha । Sītām kamala patra akṣīm idam vacanam abravīt ॥ ॥2-56-5॥
Translation
Then, having set out at the appropriate time with Lakshmana, Rama spoke these words to Sita, whose eyes resembled lotus petals.

तदनंतर, उचित समय पर लक्ष्मण के साथ प्रस्थान करते हुए, राम ने कमल की पंखुड़ी के समान नेत्रों वाली सीता से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
The narrative shifts focus to the interaction between Rama and Sita during the walk. The epithet kamala patra akṣīm (lotus-petal-eyed) is a classical standard of beauty in Sanskrit literature, but here it also suggests softness and grace contrasting with the rugged terrain. Rama addresses her to engage her mind, turning the trek into an educational or aesthetic experience rather than a mere march. The phrasing suggests a gentle intimacy and protection as they walk flanked by Lakshmana.
