आयतैर्विमलैर्नेत्रैरश्रुवेगपरिप्लुतैः ।
अन्योन्यमभिवीक्षन्तेऽव्यक्तमार्ततराः स्त्रियः ॥ ॥२-५७-१९॥
Āyatairvimalairnetrairaśruvegapariplutaiḥ । Anyonyamabhivīkṣante'vyaktamārtatarāḥ striyaḥ ॥ ॥2-57-19॥
Translation
With long, clear eyes flooded with a rush of tears, the women, in deeper distress, looked at one another indistinctly/silently.

अपनी बड़ी (आयत) और निर्मल आँखों में आंसुओं के वेग को भरे हुए, वे अत्यंत दुखी (आर्ततराः) स्त्रियां एक-दूसरे को अस्पष्ट भाव से (अव्यक्त) देखने लगीं।
English Commentary
A close-up on the grief of the palace women. Valmiki focuses on their eyes: ayata (long) and vimala (clear/spotless), now ashru-vega-pariplutaih (flooded with a torrent of tears). The contrast between the beauty of their eyes and the tragedy of their tears is poignant. They look at each other (anyonyam abhivikshante) in a manner described as avyaktam (indistinctly/inexpressibly). This could mean their vision is blurred by tears, or that their shared look conveys a sorrow too deep for words. They are artatarah (more distressed than before). This silent exchange of glances signifies a shared realization of doom, a communal bonding in sorrow that transcends speech.

यह श्लोक स्त्रियों के मूक विलाप और उनकी आँखों की भाषा का वर्णन करता है। उनकी आँखें 'आयत' (विशाल) और 'विमल' (सुंदर/निर्मल) हैं, लेकिन अब वे 'अश्रुवेगपरिप्लुतैः' (आंसुओं के सैलाब से भरी हुई) हैं। आंसुओं के कारण दृष्टि धुंधली हो गई है। वे 'आर्ततराः' (अत्यधिक पीड़ित) हैं। 'अन्योन्यमभिवीक्षन्ते' (एक-दूसरे को देखती हैं)—यह दृष्टि विनिमय ही उनका संवाद है। 'अव्यक्तम्' (जो व्यक्त न हो सके/अस्पष्ट) शब्द बताता है कि दुःख इतना गहरा है कि शब्द नहीं निकल रहे, या आंसुओं के कारण वे एक-दूसरे को साफ़ नहीं देख पा रही हैं। यह सन्नाटा और आँखों का संवाद 'हाहाकार' के बाद की स्तब्धता को दर्शाता है।
