सत्य रूपम् तु तत् वाक्यम् राज्ञः स्त्रीणाम् निशामयन् ।
प्रदीप्तम् इव शोकेन विवेश सहसा गृहम् ॥ ॥२-५७-२३॥
Satya rūpam tu tat vākyam rājñaḥ strīṇām niśāmayan |
Pradīptam iva śokena viveśa sahasā gṛham ॥2-57-23॥
Translation
Hearing those truthful words of the King's women, Sumantra, burning as it were with grief, quickly entered the house.

राजा की स्त्रियों के उन सत्य वचनों को सुनकर, शोक से मानो जलते हुए सुमन्त्र ने सहसा राजभवन में प्रवेश किया।
English Commentary
The queens' words are described as 'satya rūpam' (forms of truth)—unvarnished realities that Sumantra could not deny. Hearing this external validation of his own internal guilt acts as a catalyst. The metaphor 'pradīptam iva śokena' (as if blazing with grief) vividly portrays his internal state; he is consumed by the burning sensation of sorrow and regret. The use of 'sahasā' (suddenly/quickly) suggests an urge to escape the tormenting voices of the queens and face the inevitable confrontation with the King. He rushes in, driven by a mix of duty and the inability to bear the ambient grief any longer.

रानियों के वचन 'सत्य रूपम्' थे—अर्थात वे कड़वे सत्य थे जिसे नकारा नहीं जा सकता था। इन वचनों ने सुमन्त्र की ग्लानि और शोक की अग्नि में घी का काम किया। 'प्रदीप्तम् इव शोकेन' (शोक से जलते हुए के समान) उपमा सुमन्त्र की मानसिक स्थिति को दर्शाती है; वे बाहर से शांत दिखने का प्रयास कर रहे हो सकते हैं, किन्तु भीतर वे पश्चाताप और दुख की अग्नि में दग्ध हो रहे हैं। 'सहसा' (अचानक/शीघ्रता से) शब्द सूचित करता है कि वे अब और अधिक विलाप सुनने में असमर्थ थे, इसलिए वे भागकर कर्तव्य की इतिश्री करने हेतु राजा के पास पहुँचना चाहते थे।
