ततः अन्तः पुरम् आविद्धम् मूर्चिते पृथिवी पतौ ।
उद्धृत्य बाहू चुक्रोश नृपतौ पतिते क्षितौ ॥ ॥२-५७-२७॥
Tataḥ antaḥ puram āviddham mūrcite pṛthivī patau |
Uddhṛtya bāhū cukrośa nṛpatau patite kṣitau ॥2-57-27॥
Translation
Then, when the Lord of the Earth fainted and fell to the ground, the inner apartments were thrown into chaos; raising their arms, they (the women) wailed aloud.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राजा (पृथ्वीपति) के मूर्छित होकर पृथ्वी पर गिरते ही अन्तःपुर में हाहाकार मच गया (व्याकुल हो गया)। सब अपनी भुजाएँ उठाकर क्रंदन करने लगीं।
English Commentary
The restraint observed earlier shatters the moment the King collapses. The word 'āviddham' implies being thrown into turmoil or agitation; the orderly harem transforms into a scene of chaos. The gesture 'uddhṛtya bāhū' (raising arms) signifies utter helplessness and desperate lamentation. The use of the title 'pṛthivī patau' (Lord of the Earth) juxtaposed with his fall to the ground highlights the catastrophe—the pillar of the state has crumbled. The collective wailing of the women marks the transition from private sorrow to public calamity within the palace walls.

राजा के गिरते ही संयम का बाँध टूट गया। 'आविद्धम्' शब्द का अर्थ है मथ दिया जाना या अस्त-व्यस्त हो जाना। पूरा रनिवास शोक के बवंडर में फँस गया। 'उद्धृत्य बाहू' (भुजाएँ उठाकर) विलाप करना असहायता और ईश्वर से गुहार लगाने की पारंपरिक मुद्रा है। यह दृश्य सामूहिक शोक का है। राजा केवल पति नहीं, बल्कि राज्य और रनिवास के रक्षक ('पृथ्वी पतौ') हैं; उनका गिरना सबके लिए सुरक्षा और आधार के नष्ट होने जैसा है। यह श्लोक उस कोलाहल का वर्णन करता है जो सुमन्त्री के मूक संदेश के बाद उत्पन्न हुआ।
