इमम् तस्य महा भाग दूतम् दुष्कर कारिणः ।
वन वासात् अनुप्राप्तम् कस्मान् न प्रतिभाषसे ॥ ॥२-५७-२९॥
Imam tasya mahā bhāga dūtam duṣkara kāriṇaḥ |
Vana vāsāt anuprāptam kasmān na pratibhāṣase ॥2-57-29॥
Translation
"O Great Fortunate One, why do you not speak to this messenger of the doer of difficult deeds (Rama), who has returned from the forest dwelling?"

"हे महाभाग! कठिन कार्य करने वाले (राम) के वनवास से लौटे हुए इस दूत से आप क्यों नहीं बोलते?"
English Commentary
Kausalya addresses the King with a mixture of sorrow and sharp irony. Calling him 'mahā bhāga' (Great Fortunate One) in such a tragic moment highlights the depths of his misfortune. She refers to Rama as 'duṣkara kāriṇaḥ' (one who performs difficult deeds), acknowledging the immense sacrifice Rama made by obeying the exile order. She challenges Dasharatha's silence. By asking "Why do you not speak?", she is trying to shock him back into consciousness. It is an accusation that he is avoiding the reality of the messenger standing before him, a reality he himself created.

कौशल्या के स्वर में यहाँ व्यंग्य और उलाहना दोनों हैं। वे राजा को 'महाभाग' (बड़े भाग्य वाले) कहती हैं, जो वर्तमान स्थिति में एक तीखा कटाक्ष है। वे राम के लिए 'दुष्कर कारिणः' (कठिन कर्म करने वाला) विशेषण का प्रयोग करती हैं—राम ने पिता के वचन के लिए राज्य त्याग कर जो कठिन कार्य किया है, उसे रेखांकित करती हैं। वे राजा की चुप्पी को चुनौती देती हैं। उनका प्रश्न "क्यों नहीं बोलते?" वास्तव में राजा को उनकी जिम्मेदारी याद दिलाने का प्रयास है। दूत (सुमन्त्र) खड़ा है, और राजा का मौन रहना शिष्टाचार और पिता के धर्म, दोनों के विरुद्ध है।
