इति सूतः नर इन्द्रेण चोदितः सज्जमानया ।
उवाच वाचा राजानम् स बाष्प परिर्बद्धया ॥ ॥२-५८-१३॥
Iti sūtaḥ nara indreṇa coditaḥ sajjamānayā । Uvāca vācā rājānam sa bāṣpa parirbaddhayā ॥ ॥2-58-13॥
Translation
Thus urged by the Lord of Men, the charioteer spoke to the King with a voice that was faltering and choked with tears.
हिंदी अनुवाद
नरेन्द्र (राजा) द्वारा इस प्रकार प्रेरित किये जाने पर, उस सारथी (सुमन्त्र) ने आंसुओं से रुंधे हुए गले और लड़खड़ाती हुई वाणी से राजा से कहा।
English Commentary
This verse describes the physical manifestation of Sumantra's grief before he delivers the message. The term sajjamānayā suggests hesitation—not out of fear, but out of an emotional inability to articulate the tragedy. He is coditaḥ (urged/goaded) by the King, yet his voice is bāṣpa parirbaddhayā (imprisoned/obstructed by tears). This sets the tone for the message: it is not a formal report by an official, but a tearful recounting by a family member. The hierarchy dissolves as both men share the same paralysis of grief.

अब दृश्य बदलता है—श्रोता की उत्कंठा के बाद वक्ता की पीड़ा। 'सज्जमानया' (रुक-रुक कर/लड़खड़ाती हुई) वाणी सुमन्त्र की मानसिक स्थिति का प्रमाण है। उन्हें राजा को वह सत्य बताना है जो राजा के प्राण ले सकता है। 'बाष्प परिर्बद्धया' (आंसुओं से बंधी हुई) वाणी स्पष्ट करती है कि सुमन्त्र केवल संदेशवाहक नहीं हैं, वे भी पुत्रवत स्नेह रखते हैं। एक 'नर इन्द्र' (राजाओं के राजा) के सामने एक सेवक का रोना, उस समय के वातावरण की गंभीरता को सिद्ध करता है जहाँ शिष्टाचार दुःख के सामने गौण हो गया है।
