माता च मम कौसल्या कुशलम् च अभिवादनम् ।
अप्रमादम् च वक्तव्या ब्रूयाश्चैमिदम् वचः ॥ ॥२-५८-१७॥
Mātā ca mama Kausalyā kuśalam ca abhivādanam । Apramādam ca vaktavyā brūyāścaimidam vacaḥ ॥ ॥2-58-17॥
Translation
"And to my mother Kausalya, convey my welfare and salutations. She should be told to remain vigilant (not negligent), and speak these words to her..."

"और मेरी माता कौसल्या से मेरा कुशल और प्रणाम कहना। उनसे कहना कि वे (धर्म में) प्रमाद (आलस्य/भूल) न करें, और उनसे ये वचन भी कहना..."
English Commentary
Rama addresses his biological mother, Kausalya, with specific concern. He anticipates that grief might render her negligent in her royal and religious duties. Therefore, he sends the instruction apramādam (absence of negligence/alertness). He urges her to stay composed and vigilant. This is not just a greeting but a command to maintain her dignity and purpose amidst the tragedy. It sets the stage for the specific instructions that follow, showing Rama's pragmatic approach to his mother's psychological survival.

कौसल्या के लिए राम का संदेश विशेष है। वे जानते हैं कि पुत्र-वियोग में माँ अपना संतुलन खो सकती हैं, इसलिए वे शब्द प्रयोग करते हैं—'अप्रमादम्' (सावधानी/सजगता)। यह चेतावनी है कि दुःख में डूबकर अपने कर्तव्यों को न भूलें। राम यहाँ एक पुत्र से अधिक एक गुरु की भांति उपदेश दे रहे हैं कि भावनात्मक तूफ़ान में भी मानसिक स्थिरता बनाए रखना आवश्यक है। 'ब्रूयाश्चैमिदम् वचः' (और यह वचन कहना) से वे अगले श्लोक में विशिष्ट कर्तव्य का निर्देश देते हैं।
