सर्वप्रजाभिरामम् हि रामम् प्रव्राज्य धार्मिकम् ।
सर्वलोकम् विरुध्येमम् कथम् राजा भविष्यसि ॥२-५८-३३॥
Sarvaprajābhirāmam hi rāmam pravrājya dhārmikam । Sarvalokam virudhyemam katham rājā bhaviṣyasi ॥2-58-33॥
Translation
'Having exiled the righteous Rama, who delights all subjects, and thus antagonizing the entire world, how will you continue to be King?'

'संपूर्ण प्रजा को आनंद देने वाले धार्मिक राम को वन भेजकर, और इस प्रकार समस्त लोकों (प्रजाजन) से विरोध मोल लेकर, आप राजा कैसे बने रहेंगे?
English Commentary
Lakshmana concludes his message with a stark existential warning for Dasharatha's reign. Rama is described as sarvaprajābhirāmam (the delight of all citizens) and dhārmikam (righteous). By exiling him, Dasharatha has essentially declared war on his own people (sarvalokam virudhya). Lakshmana asks, "How will you be King?" suggesting that a King without the goodwill of his subjects is a King in name only. It foreshadows the tragic end of Dasharatha, implying that by losing Rama, he has already lost his kingship and his life force.

यह लक्ष्मण का अंतिम और सबसे तीखा प्रश्न है। 'प्रजाभिरामम्' (प्रजा को राम/आनंद देने वाले) राम को निकालने का अर्थ है प्रजा के सुख को निकालना। लक्ष्मण चेतावनी देते हैं कि समस्त संसार से 'विरुध्य' (विरोध/शत्रुता) करके कोई भी राजा सिंहासन पर नहीं टिक सकता। 'कथम् राजा भविष्यसि'—अर्थात, क्या आप वास्तव में राजा कहलाने योग्य रहेंगे? या क्या आपका शासन चल पाएगा? लक्ष्मण यहाँ यह सिद्ध करते हैं कि राम के बिना अयोध्या का राज्य-ढांचा ही ढह जाएगा, क्योंकि राजा और प्रजा के बीच की कड़ी (राम) टूट चुकी है।
