उद्वीक्षमाणा भर्तारम् मुखेन परिशुष्यता ।
मुमोच सहसा बाष्पम् माम् प्रयान्तम् उदीक्ष्य सा ॥२-५८-३६॥
Udvīkṣamāṇā bhartāram mukhena pariśuṣyatā । Mumocha sahasā bāṣpam mām prayāntam udīkṣya sā ॥2-58-36॥
Translation
'Gazing up at her husband with a parched face, and seeing me departing, she suddenly released a flood of tears.'

'सूखते हुए मुख से अपने पति (राम) को निहारती हुई, मुझे (रथ लेकर) वापस जाते देख, उन्होंने सहसा आंसुओं की धारा छोड़ दी।'
English Commentary
The finality of the separation hits Sita as Sumantra turns to leave. Her face is pariśuṣyatā (drying up/withered), indicating physical toll and dehydration from grief. She looks to her husband (bhartāram) for strength but breaks down (mumocha bāṣpam) upon seeing the chariot depart. This moment marks the severing of the umbilical cord with Ayodhya. The visual of the drying face contrasts with the sudden flow of tears, emphasizing the physical manifestation of her inner turmoil.

जब तक रथ वहां था, सीता को शायद अयोध्या से जुड़े रहने का आभास था। जैसे ही सुमंत लौटने लगे ('माम् प्रयान्तम्'), सीता का बांध टूट गया। 'मुखेन परिशुष्यता' (सूखते हुए मुख से) भय और प्यास (तृष्णा/शोक) दोनों को दिखाता है। वह राम का चेहरा देख रही थीं ताकि उनमें साहस पा सकें, लेकिन अयोध्या के अंतिम संपर्क (सुमंत) के जाते ही वह रो पड़ीं। यह विदाई का वह क्षण है जब वास्तविकता पूर्णतः स्वीकार कर ली जाती है।
