यम् यान्तम् अनुयान्ति स्म पदाति रथ कुञ्जराः ।
स वत्स्यति कथम् रामः विजनम् वनम् आश्रितः ॥ ॥२-५८-७॥
Yam yāntam anuyānti sma padāti ratha kuñjarāḥ । Sa vatsyati katham rāmaḥ vijanam vanam āśritaḥ ॥ ॥2-58-7॥
Translation
"He, whom foot soldiers, chariots, and elephants used to follow when he moved, how will that Rama live dwelling in the desolate forest?"

"जिसके चलते समय पैदल सेना, रथ और हाथी पीछे-पीछे चलते थे, वह राम जन-शून्य वन का आश्रय लेकर कैसे रहेगा?"
English Commentary
Dasharatha here compares Rama’s royal glory with his current solitude. The imagery of padāti ratha kuñjarāḥ (infantry, chariots, and elephants) represents the clamor, security, and status that defined Rama's movements in Ayodhya. This is pitted against vijanam vanam (the people-less forest). Dasharatha worries about the psychological impact of this sudden transition from being the celebrated center of attention to absolute solitude. It emphasizes the loss of 'parivara' (retinue) which is essential for a royal identity.

दशरथ यहाँ राम के राजसी वैभव और वर्तमान एकाकीपन की तुलना कर रहे हैं। 'पदाति रथ कुञ्जराः' (चतुरंगिणी सेना) का अनुगमन करना राम के प्रभाव और सुरक्षा का प्रतीक था। अब स्थिति 'विजनम्' (जन रहित/निर्जन) है। सामाजिक प्राणी, और विशेषकर एक राजकुमार जो सदैव सेवकों और प्रशंसकों से घिरा रहता था, उसके लिए नितांत अकेलेपन का दंश शारीरिक कष्ट से अधिक मानसिक कष्ट देता है। दशरथ को चिंता है कि भीड़ में रहने वाला राम उस सन्नाटे को कैसे सहन करेगा।
