भवितव्यतया नूनम् इदम् वा व्यसनम् महत् ।
कुलस्य अस्य विनाशाय प्राप्तम् सूत यदृच्चया ॥२-५९-२०॥
bhavitavyatayā nūnam idam vā vyasanam mahat |
kulasya asya vināśāya prāptam sūta yadṛccayā ॥2-59-20॥
Translation
O Charioteer! Surely, due to destiny, this great calamity has befallen us by chance, to bring about the destruction of this lineage.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सूत! निश्चय ही यह महान विपत्ति (व्यसन) होनहार (भाग्य) के कारण, इस रघुकुल के विनाश के लिए ही, संयोगवश आ पड़ी है।
English Commentary
Following his admission of guilt, Dasharatha shifts to fatalism to process the magnitude of the tragedy. He attributes the events to bhavitavyatā (inevitability/destiny). He perceives this not just as a personal failing but as a cosmic alignment meant for the vināśāya (destruction) of his dynasty (kula). The use of yadṛccayā (by chance/accidentally) suggests that despite human agency, the larger turn of events feels driven by an unseen hand (Daiva). This reflects the exhausted mind of the King, who, unable to undo his actions, resigns himself to the impending doom of his lineage.

जब तर्क और पश्चाताप से मन को शांति नहीं मिलती, तब मनुष्य 'प्रारब्ध' या 'भाग्य' का सहारा लेता है। अपनी गलती स्वीकारने के बाद, दशरथ अब इसे 'भवितव्यता' (जो होना ही है/नियति) मानते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि यह 'व्यसन' (विपत्ति/कष्ट) इक्ष्वाकु कुल के विनाश के लिए आया है। यहाँ 'यदृच्छया' (अचानक/दैवयोग से) शब्द का प्रयोग यह दर्शाता है कि दशरथ को अब लगता है कि घटनाक्रम उनके नियंत्रण से बाहर था। यह श्लोक निराशा की चरम सीमा है, जहाँ राजा को भविष्य में केवल अपने कुल का विनाश दिखाई दे रहा है। यह आगामी घटनाओं (दशरथ की मृत्यु) का संकेत भी है।
