यद् यद् या अपि मम एव आज्ञा निवर्तयतु राघवम् ।
न शक्ष्यामि विना राम मुहूर्तम् अपि जीवितुम् ॥२-५९-२२॥
yad yad yā api mama eva ājñā nivartayatu rāghavam |
na śakṣyāmi vinā rāma muhūrtam api jīvitum ॥2-59-22॥
Translation
Even though it was indeed my own command (that banished him), let him turn Raghava back. I will not be able to survive for even a moment without Rama.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यद्यपि वह मेरी ही आज्ञा थी (जिसने राम को भेजा), फिर भी वह (सुमंत्र/राम) राघव को लौटा ले आए। मैं राम के बिना एक मुहूर्त (क्षण भर) भी जीवित नहीं रह सकूंगा।
English Commentary
Here, Dasharatha reaches a point of desperation where he is willing to rescind his own royal decree, defying the rigid code of the Ikshvaku lineage regarding the sanctity of one's word. He acknowledges his agency in the exile (mama eva ājñā - my own command) but pleads for it to be reversed. The statement 'I cannot live for even a moment without Rama' is not hyperbole but a literal statement of his fading vitality. It highlights the tragedy of a man whose adherence to Dharma (truth) has cost him the very source of his life, and in his final moments, he wishes to choose love over truth.

यहाँ राजा दशरथ अपने ही दिए गए वचनों और आदेशों को पलटने की बात कर रहे हैं। रघुकुल की मर्यादा "प्राण जाय पर वचन न जाय" के लिए प्रसिद्ध है, किन्तु पुत्र-मोह और वियोग की पीड़ा उस मर्यादा पर भारी पड़ रही है। दशरथ स्वीकार करते हैं कि वनवास की आज्ञा उन्हीं की थी, पर अब वे उसे निरस्त करना चाहते हैं। यह धर्मसंकट और मानवीय दुर्बलता का चित्रण है। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि राम उनके प्राणों का आधार हैं, और उनके बिना जीवन की कल्पना भी असंभव है। यह श्लोक सत्यनिष्ठा और पितृप्रेम के बीच के द्वंद्व में पितृप्रेम की विजय (या पराजय) को दर्शाता है।
