Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यस्मिन् बत निमग्नोऽहम् कौसल्ये राघवम् विना ।
दुस्तरः जीवता देवि मया अयम् शोक सागरः ॥२-५९-३२॥
yasmin bata nimagno'ham kausalye rāghavam vinā |
dustaraḥ jīvatā devi mayā ayam śoka sāgaraḥ ॥2-59-32॥
Translation
Alas, O Kausalya! Without Raghava, I am drowned in this ocean. O Noble Lady, it is impossible for me to cross this Ocean of Sorrow while alive.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे कौसल्या! खेद है (बत) कि राम के बिना मैं इस शोक-सागर में डूब गया हूँ। हे देवि! जीवित रहते हुए मेरे लिए इस सागर को पार करना असंभव (दुस्तर) है।
English Commentary
Dasharatha concludes his elaborate metaphor with a direct address to Kausalya, his partner in grief. The interjection bata expresses deep regret and pathos. By stating nimagno'ham (I am submerged/drowned), he indicates that the struggle is over; the grief has won. He confesses that crossing this ocean (dustaraḥ) is impossible while retaining his life breaths. It acts as a foreshadowing of his immediate death. He seeks solace in Kausalya, admitting his failure to survive the separation from their son. It is a heartbreaking declaration of surrender to the overwhelming power of sorrow.

यह अंतिम श्लोक दशरथ के जीवन का निष्कर्ष है। वे अपनी पटरानी कौशल्या को संबोधित करते हैं, जो उनके दुख की मूक साक्षी हैं। 'बत' शब्द खेद और लाचारी व्यक्त करता है। 'निमग्नोऽहम्' (मैं डूब गया हूँ) एक पूर्ण समर्पण है—अब तैरने या बचने का प्रयास समाप्त हो चुका है। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि 'जीवता' (जीवित रहते हुए) इस सागर को पार करना असंभव है; अर्थ यह है कि केवल मृत्यु ही उन्हें इस दुःख से मुक्त कर सकती है। यह दशरथ की 'इच्छामृत्यु' जैसी स्थिति है, जहाँ वे दुःख से मुक्ति पाने के लिए मृत्यु का आह्वान कर रहे हैं।
