बाला इव रमते सीता बाल चन्द्र निभ आनना ।
रामा रामे हि अदीन आत्मा विजने अपि वने सती ॥२-६०-१०॥
bālā iva ramate sītā bāla candra nibha ānanā |
rāmā rāme hi adīna ātmā vijane api vane satī ॥2-60-10॥
Translation
Sita, whose face resembles the new moon, delights like a young girl. Being a devoted wife (Sati) and a beautiful woman (Rama), her undepressed soul is focused entirely on Rama, even in the lonely forest.
हिंदी अनुवाद
बाल-चंद्रमा के समान मुख वाली वह बाला (सीता) बालिका की भांति (कौतूहल से) रम रही है। वह सुंदरी (रामा) सती है और राम में ही उसका (अदीन) मन लगा है, इसलिए वह निर्जन वन में भी प्रसन्न है।
English Commentary
Sumantra concludes his description of Sita with poetic imagery. She is bāla candra nibha ānanā (face like the crescent moon), implying freshness and hope. She behaves bālā iva (like a child), full of innocent curiosity about the forest, rather than fear. The term adīna ātmā (undepressed soul/spirited) is crucial—it confirms her high morale. Because she is Satī (devoted wife) and focused on Rama, the desolation of the forest (vijane api vane) fails to crush her spirit. This is the ultimate comfort for a mother worrying about her children's happiness.
