Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
परि पृच्चति वैदेही ग्रामामः च नगराणि च ।
गतिम् दृष्ट्वा नदीनाम् च पादपान् विविधान् अपि ॥ ॥२-६०-१२॥
Pari pṛccati vaidehī grāmāmaḥ ca nagarāṇi ca । Gatim dṛṣṭvā nadīnām ca pādapān vividhān api ॥ ॥2-60-12॥
Translation
Seeing the villages and towns along the way, the flow of the rivers, and the various kinds of trees, Vaidehi (Sita) asks about them with curiosity.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मार्ग में आने वाले गांवों और नगरों को, नदियों के प्रवाह को और विभिन्न प्रकार के वृक्षों को देखकर वैदेही (सीता) उनके विषय में उत्सुकता से पूछती हैं।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates Sita’s innocence and composure. Instead of being paralyzed by the fear of exile or the loss of royal comfort, she exhibits a childlike curiosity about the natural world. By describing her asking questions about the rivers and trees, Sumantra paints a picture of someone who is mentally stable and engaged with her surroundings, rather than a princess collapsing under the weight of tragedy.

यह श्लोक सीता जी की मासूमियत और उनकी मानसिक स्थिति को दर्शाता है। सुमंत्र बताते हैं कि वनगमन के दौरान सीता भयभीत या शोक में डूबी हुई नहीं थीं। इसके विपरीत, उनमें एक बालिका जैसी उत्सुकता थी। वह प्रकृति के दृश्यों, नए गांवों और नदियों को देखकर प्रसन्न हो रही थीं। यह वर्णन कौशल्या के मन से इस डर को निकालने के लिए है कि सीता वन की भयानक यात्रा से टूट गई होंगी। वह यात्रा का आनंद ले रही हैं।
