ध्वम्सयित्वा तु तद्वाक्यम् प्रमादात्पर्युपस्थितम् ।
ह्लदनम् वचनम् सूतो देव्या मधुरमब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-६०-१५॥
Dhvamsayitvā tu tadvākyam pramādātparyupasthitam । Hladanam vacanam sūto devyā madhuramabravīt ॥ ॥2-60-15॥
Translation
Suppressing those words that had almost slipped out due to inadvertence, the charioteer (Sumantra) spoke sweet words to the Queen that were pleasing to the heart.
हिंदी अनुवाद
प्रमादवश (असावधान से) मुँह पर आ गई उस बात को दबाकर, सूत (सुमंत्र) ने देवी कौशल्या से मन को प्रसन्न करने वाले मधुर वचन कहे।
English Commentary
This confirms that Sumantra actively censored his report to spare the Queen's feelings. Realizing that mentioning Kaikeyi was a slip ("pramada"), he quickly pivots. He replaces the potentially bitter report with "madhuram" (sweet/pleasant) descriptions. This transition marks the shift from reporting the events of the journey to describing the mystical resilience of Sita, aiming to distract and comfort Kausalya.

पिछले श्लोक की पुष्टि करते हुए, यहाँ स्पष्ट किया गया है कि सुमंत्र ने नकारात्मक बातों को दबा दिया। एक अच्छे दूत और मंत्री का लक्षण होता है कि वह स्थिति की गंभीरता को समझे और केवल वही कहे जिससे श्रोता को सांत्वना मिले। कौशल्या पहले ही पुत्र-वियोग में मरणासन्न हैं, अतः सुमंत्र विषय बदलते हैं और सीता के सौंदर्य और तेज की प्रशंसा करना शुरू करते हैं।
