न शोच्याः ते न च आत्मा ते शोच्यो न अपि जन अधिपः ।
इदम् हि चरितम् लोके प्रतिष्ठास्यति शाश्वतम् ॥ ॥२-६०-२१॥
Na śocyāḥ te na ca ātmā te śocyo na api jana adhipaḥ । Idam hi caritam loke pratiṣṭhāsyati śāśvatam ॥ ॥2-60-21॥
Translation
Therefore, they are not to be grieved for, nor are you to be pitied, nor the King. For this history of theirs shall stand established in the world forever.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(अतः) न तो वे (राम, लक्ष्मण, सीता) शोक करने योग्य हैं, न आप और न ही महाराज (दशरथ)। क्योंकि इनका यह चरित्र (इतिहास) संसार में शाश्वत रूप से प्रतिष्ठित रहेगा।
English Commentary
Sumantra shifts from physical description to philosophical consolation. He argues that grief is misplaced because Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana are creating an eternal legacy. Their conduct ("Caritam") in the face of adversity will be revered forever. He tells Kausalya that instead of pitying them or herself, she should realize the magnitude of the glory they are achieving through this sacrifice.

सुमंत्र अब दार्शनिक स्तर पर सांत्वना दे रहे हैं। वह कहते हैं कि यह वनवास कोई साधारण घटना नहीं है। यह एक ऐसा महान त्याग है जो इतिहास बन जाएगा। राम का पितृभक्ति, सीता का पातिव्रत्य और लक्ष्मण का भ्रातृप्रेम—यह 'चरित्र' युगों-युगों तक गाया जाएगा। जो लोग इतिहास रचते हैं, उनके कष्ट पर शोक नहीं, बल्कि उनके त्याग पर गर्व करना चाहिए।
