निवर्तय रथम् शीघ्रम् दण्डकान् नय माम् अपि ।
अथ तान् न अनुगच्चामि गमिष्यामि यम क्षयम् ॥२-६०-३॥
nivartaya ratham śīghram daṇḍakān naya mām api |
atha tān na anugaccāmi gamiṣyāmi yama kṣayam ॥2-60-3॥
Translation
Turn the chariot back immediately and take me also to Dandaka forest. If I do not follow them, I shall go to the abode of Yama.

रथ को शीघ्र लौटाओ और मुझे भी दंडकारण्य ले चलो। यदि मैं उनके पीछे नहीं जाती हूँ, तो मैं यमलोक (मृत्यु को) प्राप्त हो जाऊँगी।
English Commentary
Kausalya issues a desperate command. She presents a binary choice to Sumantra: take her to the Dandaka forest or watch her die. Dandakān naya mām api (Take me too to Dandaka) shows her readiness to embrace the hardships of exile over the luxury of a childless palace. The threat gamiṣyāmi yama kṣayam (I will go to Yama's abode) is not empty; it is a statement of fact regarding her dwindling life force. She seeks physical movement (turning the chariot) to counter her emotional paralysis.

यह कौशल्या का सुमंत्र को अल्टीमेटम (अंतिम चेतावनी) है। 'निवर्तय रथम्' (रथ को घुमाओ) का आदेश उस रानी का है जो कभी आदेश नहीं देती थी। उनके पास दो ही विकल्प हैं: 'दंडकान्' (दंडकारण्य) या 'यम-क्षयम्' (यमराज का घर)। बीच का कोई रास्ता नहीं है। यह मातृत्व की पराकाष्ठा है जहाँ वन के कष्ट राजमहल के सुखों से बेहतर लगते हैं, यदि वहाँ संतान का साथ हो। 'शीघ्रम्' शब्द उनकी अधीरता को दर्शाता है; उन्हें लगता है कि प्रत्येक व्यतीत पल उन्हें मृत्यु के करीब ले जा रहा है।
