बाष्प वेगौपहतया स वाचा सज्जमानया ।
इदम् आश्वासयन् देवीम् सूतः प्रान्जलिर् अब्रवीत् ॥२-६०-४॥
bāṣpa vegaupahatayā sa vācā sajjamānayā |
idam āśvālayan devīm sūtaḥ prāñjalir abravīt ॥2-60-4॥
Translation
With a voice choked by the rush of tears and faltering, the charioteer (Sumantra), with folded hands, spoke thus, consoling the Queen.
हिंदी अनुवाद
आंसुओं के वेग से रुंधी हुई और लड़खड़ाती (सज्जमानया) वाणी में, उस सूत (सुमंत्र) ने हाथ जोड़कर (प्रांजलि) देवी (कौशल्या) को आश्वासन देते हुए यह कहा।
English Commentary
Sumantra attempts to perform his duty despite his own emotional breakdown. His voice is described as sajjamānayā (stuttering/faltering) due to tears, mirroring the grief of the royals. Yet, he assumes the posture of supplication (prāñjalir - hands folded) and attempts to console (āśvālayan) Kausalya. This verse highlights Sumantra's difficult position: he must be the pillar of strength for the collapsing royal family while he himself is crumbling inside.
