यद्यपि त्रिषु लोकेषु प्रथितम् ते मयद् यशः ।
सानुक्रोशो वदान्यः च प्रिय वादी च राघवः ॥२-६१-२॥
Yadyapi triṣu lokeṣu prathitam te mahad yaśaḥ |
Sānukrośo vadānyaḥ ca priya vādī ca rāghavaḥ ॥2-61-2॥
Translation
(Kausalya speaks) Even though your great fame is renowned across the three worlds—that you are compassionate, generous, and sweet-spoken (yet you have acted otherwise regarding Raghava).

(कौसल्य कहते हैं) यद्यपि तीनों लोकों में आपका महान यश फैला हुआ है कि आप दयालु, दानी और मृदुभाषी हैं (फिर भी राघव के प्रति आपने क्रूरता की)।
English Commentary
Kausalya employs a piercing rhetorical device here. By listing Dasharatha's celebrated virtues—fame (Yashas), compassion (Sanukrosha), and generosity (Vadanya)—she highlights the hypocrisy of his current action. It implies a devastating question: "Of what use is your global fame for kindness if you can be so cruel to your own son?" She acknowledges his reputation only to contrast it with the harsh reality of Rama's banishment, thereby intensifying the King's guilt.
