Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नैतस्य सहिता लोका भयम् कुर्युर्महामृधे ।
अधर्मम् त्विह धर्मात्मा लोकम् धर्मेण योजयेत् ॥२-६१-२०॥
Naitasya sahitā lokā bhayam kuryurmahāmṛdhe |
Adharmam tviha dharmātmā lokam dharmeṇa yojayet ॥2-61-20॥
Translation
All the worlds united cannot cause him fear in a great battle. However, that righteous soul (Rama), instead of engaging in Adharma (unrighteous warfare/rebellion), wishes to unite the world with Dharma.
हिंदी अनुवाद
महायुद्ध में समस्त लोक मिलकर भी राम को भयभीत नहीं कर सकते। किन्तु वह धर्मात्मा (राम) यहाँ (इस स्थिति में) अधर्म करने के बजाय, लोक को धर्म में ही लगाए रखना चाहता है (इसलिए चुप है)।
English Commentary
This verse is a vital clarification of Rama's motive. It is not cowardice but ethical restraint that drives his obedience. Kausalya asserts his invincibility—even combined worlds cannot scare him in war (Maha-mridhe). However, Rama chooses to bind the world with Dharma (Dharmena yojayet) rather than disrupt order through rebellion, even if the command given to him is unjust. It highlights his moral superiority over mere physical might.

कौसल्या स्पष्ट करती हैं कि राम वन इसलिए नहीं जा रहे कि वे कमजोर हैं या डर गए हैं। 'सहिता लोका' (सारे लोक मिलकर) भी उन्हें डरा नहीं सकते। वे केवल इसलिए जा रहे हैं क्योंकि वे 'धर्मात्मा' हैं। वे पिता के वचन को झूठा करके 'अधर्म' नहीं करना चाहते। यह श्लोक राम की शक्ति और उनके संयम (Self-restraint) के बीच के संतुलन को बहुत खूबसूरती से दिखाता है। शक्ति होते हुए भी उसका प्रयोग न करना ही उनका धर्म है।
