Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तत्र त्वम् चैव मे न अस्ति रामः च वनम् आश्रितः ।
न वनम् गन्तुम् इच्चामि सर्वथा हि हता त्वया ॥ ॥२-६१-२५॥
Tatra tvam caiva me na asti rāmaḥ ca vanam āśritaḥ । Na vanam gantum icchāmi sarvathā hi hatā tvayā ॥ ॥2-61-25॥
Translation
In this situation, you are of no avail to me, and Rama has taken refuge in the forest. I do not wish to go to the forest (leaving you here), so indeed, I have been ruined by you in every way.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस स्थिति में, तुम मेरे लिए नहीं हो (क्योंकि तुमने मेरा पक्ष नहीं लिया), और राम वन का आश्रय ले चुके हैं। मैं वन भी नहीं जा सकती (तुम्हें छोड़कर), अतः तुमने मुझे सब प्रकार से नष्ट कर दिया है।
English Commentary
Kausalya expresses the tragic paralysis of her situation. She is caught between her maternal love and her marital duty. While her heart is with Rama in the forest, her duty binds her to the aging King, even though she feels betrayed by him. When she says, 'You are not mine,' she implies that he has ceased to function as a protector. By destroying her happiness and leaving her no viable option—neither to stay with dignity nor to leave with her son—she declares that he has effectively 'killed' her. It is a cry of absolute hopelessness.

कौशल्या का यह कथन उनकी धर्म-संकट और भावनात्मक द्वंद्व को दर्शाता है। यद्यपि वह राम के साथ जाना चाहती थीं, परन्तु 'पति-व्रता' धर्म उन्हें रुग्ण और वृद्ध राजा को छोड़ने से रोकता है। वह दशरथ से कहती हैं कि तुम मेरे पास होकर भी 'मेरे नहीं' हो क्योंकि तुमने मेरे हितों की रक्षा नहीं की। वह पूरी तरह फँस चुकी हैं—न वह यहाँ सुखी हैं और न ही वन जा सकती हैं। 'हता त्वया' (तुम्हारे द्वारा मारी गई हूँ) का प्रयोग अत्यंत कठोर है, जो यह बताता है कि कौशल्या के लिए यह वियोग मृत्यु के समान ही कष्टकारी है।
