पद्म वर्णम् सुकेश अन्तम् पद्म निह्श्वासम् उत्तमम् ।
कदा द्रक्ष्यामि रामस्य वदनम् पुष्कर ईक्षणम् ॥२-६१-८॥
Padma varṇam sukeśa antam padma nihśvāsam uttamam |
Kadā drakṣyāmi rāmasya vadanam puṣkara īkṣaṇam ॥2-61-8॥
Translation
When shall I see again Rama's face, which has the complexion of a lotus, beautiful hair, breath fragrant like a lotus, and eyes resembling lotus petals?
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं राम का वह मुख कब देखूँगी जो कमल के समान वर्ण वाला है, जिसके बाल सुंदर हैं, जिसकी श्वास में कमल जैसी सुगंध है और जिसके नेत्र कमल (पुष्कर) के समान हैं?
English Commentary
This verse is a beautiful, melancholic recollection of Rama's physical beauty. The lotus (Padma/Pushkara) is the central motif—symbolizing purity, beauty, and auspiciousness. Kausalya longs for the sensory experience of her son: the sight of his face and hair, the smell of his breath. The question "When shall I see?" underscores the uncertainty of their reunion. It shifts the tone from anger at Dasharatha back to the pure yearning of a mother's heart.

वियोग में प्रियजन का चेहरा सबसे अधिक याद आता है। कौसल्या यहाँ 'कमल' (पद्म/पुष्कर) के रूपकों (metaphors) की झड़ी लगा देती हैं। राम का वर्ण, श्वास और नेत्र—सब कुछ कमलवत है। यह श्लोक वात्सल्य रस से परिपूर्ण है। 'कदा द्रक्ष्यामि' (कब देखूँगी) में एक गहरी हताशा है, क्योंकि उन्हें पता है कि १४ वर्ष बहुत लम्बा समय है और शायद वे तब तक जीवित न रहें। यह सौंदर्य वर्णन विरह की अग्नि को और भड़का रहा है।
