Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तत् वाक्यम् करुणम् राज्ञः श्रुत्वा दीनस्य भाषितम् ।
कौसल्या व्यसृजद् बाष्पम् प्रणाली इव नव उदकम् ॥ ॥२-६२-१०॥
Tat vākyam karuṇam rājñaḥ śrutvā dīnasya bhāṣitam । Kausalyā vyasṛjad bāṣpam praṇālī iva nava udakam ॥ ॥2-62-10॥
Translation
Hearing those pitiful and compassionate words spoken by the King, Kausalya shed tears profusely, just as a channel releases fresh rainwater.

राजा के उस करुण और दीनतापूर्ण वचन को सुनकर, कौशल्या ने वैसे ही आँसू बहाए जैसे बरसात का नया पानी नाली (प्रणाली) से तेजी से बह निकलता है।
English Commentary
The imagery here is vivid. The simile of "new water from a channel" suggests a sudden, uncontrollable burst of emotion. Kausalya’s anger was a dam holding back her sorrow; Dasharatha’s humble plea broke that dam. The transition from the previous verses—where she was attacking him—to this moment of shared vulnerability highlights the complex layers of grief. She realizes the depth of his brokenness, and her aggression dissolves into pure sorrow.

राजा की दीनता ने कौशल्या के क्रोध को क्षण भर में धो डाला। 'प्रणाली इव नव उदकम्' (जैसे नाली से नया पानी) की उपमा बहुत सटीक है। जैसे वर्षा का नया पानी रुक नहीं सकता, वैसे ही राजा की क्षमा याचना सुनकर कौशल्या के रोके हुए आँसू फूट पड़े। यह उनके हृदय परिवर्तन को दर्शाता है; उनका क्रोध अब करुणा और पश्चाताप में बदल गया है। राजा को गिड़गिड़ाते देख रानी का कठोर आवरण पिघल गया।
