Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सा त्वम् धर्म परा नित्यम् दृष्ट लोक पर अवर ।
न अर्हसे विप्रियम् वक्तुम् दुह्खिता अपि सुदुह्खितम् ॥ ॥२-६२-९॥
Sā tvam dharma parā nityam dṛṣṭa loka para avara । Na arhase vipriyam vaktum duḥkhitā api suduḥkhitam ॥ ॥2-62-9॥
Translation
"You are ever devoted to Dharma and have observed the ups and downs of the world. Even though you are grieving, you ought not to speak harsh words to me, who am already suffering intensely."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"तुम सदैव धर्म में तत्पर रहने वाली हो और तुमने लोक के भले-बुरे (सुख-दुख) को देखा है। स्वयं दुखी होते हुए भी, तुम्हें मुझ जैसे अत्यंत दुखी व्यक्ति से अप्रिय वचन नहीं कहने चाहिए।"
English Commentary
Dasharatha appeals to Kausalya’s wisdom and experience. By calling her one who has seen the "Para Avara" (highs and lows/good and bad) of the world, he implies she should have the maturity to understand his plight. He differentiates between her grief (duḥkhitā) and his own intensified suffering (suduḥkhitam), suggesting that kicking a man when he is down is beneath her dignity. It is a desperate plea for mercy based on their shared understanding of moral duty (Dharma).

राजा दशरथ यहाँ कौशल्या के विवेक को जगा रहे हैं। वह स्वीकार करते हैं कि कौशल्या 'दुखी' हैं, लेकिन वह स्वयं को 'सुदुखी' (अत्यधिक दुखी) बता रहे हैं। उनका तर्क है कि जो व्यक्ति पहले से ही अपने कर्मों और पुत्र वियोग की आग में जल रहा हो, उस पर कटाक्ष करना धर्म नहीं है। वह कौशल्या को 'धर्म परा' (धर्म पर चलने वाली) कहकर याद दिलाते हैं कि विपत्ति में धैर्य और दया ही श्रेष्ठ आचरण है। यह एक टूटे हुए पति की अपनी पत्नी से भावनात्मक अपील है।
