न एषा हि सा स्त्री भवति श्लाघनीयेन धीमता ।
उभयोः लोकयोः वीर पत्या या सम्प्रसाद्यते ॥ ॥२-६२-१३॥
Na eṣā hi sā strī bhavati ślāghanīyena dhīmatā । Ubhayoḥ lokayoḥ vīra patyā yā samprasādyate ॥ ॥2-62-13॥
Translation
"O Hero, that woman is not considered virtuous in both worlds (this world and the next) who is propitiated by her praiseworthy and wise husband."

"हे वीर! वह स्त्री दोनों लोकों (इहलोक और परलोक) में श्रेष्ठ नहीं मानी जाती, जिसे उसके बुद्धिमान और प्रशंसनीय पति द्वारा (हाथ जोड़कर) मनाया जाता है।"
English Commentary
Kausalya articulates the ethical code of her time. A wife whose husband is reduced to begging for her forgiveness is seen as having failed in her duty to support his dignity. By calling him a "Hero" (Vīra), she tries to remind him of his strength. She argues that if he continues to apologize in this manner, it condemns her in the eyes of society and spiritual law. She refuses to be the cause of his humiliation.

यहाँ कौशल्या एक सामाजिक और धार्मिक सिद्धांत का हवाला दे रही हैं। वह मानती हैं कि पति का पत्नी को मनाना (विशेषकर दीनता से) पत्नी के चरित्र पर धब्बा है। वह दशरथ को 'वीर' और 'धीमता' (बुद्धिमान) कहकर उनका आत्मसम्मान लौटा रही हैं। वह यह संदेश दे रही हैं कि राजा का स्थान सदैव ऊँचा होता है, और उन्हें अपनी पत्नी के सामने लाचार नहीं होना चाहिए। यह कौशल्या की महानता है कि अपने दुख के बावजूद वह पति की मर्यादा की रक्षा कर रही हैं।
