तम् हि चिन्तयमानायाः शोको अयम् हृदि वर्धते ।
अदीनाम् इव वेगेन समुद्र सलिलम् महत् ॥ ॥२-६२-१९॥
Tam hi cintayamānāyāḥ śoko ayam hṛdi vardhate । Nadīnām iva vegena samudra salilam mahat ॥ ॥2-62-19॥
Translation
"As I keep thinking of him (Rama), this grief increases in my heart, just as the great waters of the ocean rise with the rapid flow of rivers."

"उस (राम) का ही चिंतन करते हुए मेरे हृदय में यह शोक उसी प्रकार बढ़ रहा है, जैसे नदियों के वेग से समुद्र का महान जल बढ़ता है।"
English Commentary
Kausalya uses a powerful metaphor involving nature. Her heart is compared to the ocean, and her grief is fueled by the tributaries of her thoughts about Rama. Just as rivers constantly feed the ocean, preventing it from drying up, her continuous memories of her son keep replenishing her sorrow. It suggests an overwhelming, limitless expanse of pain that is constantly rising.

यहाँ उपमा अलंकार का सुंदर प्रयोग है। कौशल्या का हृदय 'समुद्र' है और राम की स्मृतियाँ 'नदियाँ' हैं। जैसे नदियाँ लगातार समुद्र में गिरकर उसे उद्वेलित करती रहती हैं, वैसे ही राम की यादें कौशल्या के शोक को बढ़ा रही हैं। यह शोक स्थिर नहीं है; यह प्रतिक्षण 'वर्धते' (बढ़ रहा है)। यह दिखाता है कि सांत्वना के बाद भी, मूल पीड़ा कम नहीं हुई है।
