लब्ध शब्देन कौसल्ये कुमारेण धनुष्मता ।
कुमारः शब्द वेधी इति मया पापम् इदम् कृतम् ॥ ॥२-६३-११॥
Labdha śabdena kausalye kumāreṇa dhanuṣmatā । Kumāraḥ śabda vedhī iti mayā pāpam idam kṛtam ॥ ॥2-63-11॥
Translation
"O Kausalya! This sin was committed by me when I was a young Prince (Kumara), skilled in archery and known as one who could aim by sound alone (Shabdavedhi)."

"हे कौशल्या! जब मैं कुमारावस्था (युवराज) में था और धनुर्विद्या में निपुण था, तब 'यह कुमार शब्दवेधी (आवाज़ सुनकर निशाना लगाने वाला) है', इस अभिमान में मैंने यह पाप किया था।"
English Commentary
The narrative shifts to the distant past. Dasharatha specifies he was a Kumara (Prince, not yet King) when this happened. He possessed the rare skill of Shabdavedhi—striking an invisible target using only sound. He confesses that his pride in this skill was the root of the tragedy. This verse sets the stage for the hunting accident, highlighting that the seeds of his death were sown in his youth, long before Rama was even born.

अब फ्लैशबैक (Flashback) शुरू होता है। दशरथ उस समय 'राजा' नहीं, 'कुमार' (राजकुमार) थे। उन्हें 'शब्दवेधी' विद्या आती थी—बिना देखे केवल आवाज़ सुनकर अचूक बाण मारना। यह विद्या अत्यंत दुर्लभ थी, और इसी के अहंकार में उनसे वह भयानक भूल हुई। वह बताते हैं कि यह पाप जानबूझकर नहीं, बल्कि जवानी के जोश और विद्या के प्रदर्शन के प्रयास में हुआ था। यहीं से श्रवण कुमार की कथा का आरंभ होता है।
